Japan has evinced interest in opening a whole lot of job opportunities for the young and skilled workforce of India, especially of Assam, in Japan.

GUWAHATI: Japan has evinced interest in opening a whole lot of job opportunities for the young and skilled workforce of India, especially of Assam, in Japan. Japan’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ikuina Akiko, made this known to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma before the latter wound up his Japan visit today.

The Chief Minister said, “During our discussion, she conveyed to me the Government of Japan’s intention to offer India, and particularly Assam’s young and skilled workforce, job opportunities in Japan. I underlined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a robust friendship between India and Japan that can better the lives of our people.”

The Chief Minister said, “It was a privilege to meet Ikuina Akiko, who greeted me in Assamese.”

In his interaction with the vice president of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), Hara Shohei, the Chief Minister said, “It was a fruitful discussion to provide more acceleration in our efforts to attract Japanese investment in Assam. We’re working on the modalities as to how the Government of Assam can partner with JICA and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to establish an exclusive industrial park for Japanese companies in Assam.” 

The Chief Minister also met the vice president of the Yokogawa Electronic Corporation, Yoshiyaki Asakura. This engineering firm has been working in Assam through its collaboration with NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Ltd) and IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd). “We discussed expanding their current foundations and exploring other opportunities in Assam. I also requested the corporation to extend support to Assam’s growing electronic and energy sector,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also met the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mizhuho Securities India, Takawo Hosoya. “This firm is known for its expertise in providing innovative financial solutions and credit facilities. I discussed expanding the credit linkage of Assam companies and ensuring continuity of the Japanese company’s investment in Assam,” he said.

Dr. Sarma met the executive vice president of Tokyo Electron Ltd., Takashi Okubo. Tokyo Electron is a vital player in the semiconductor supply chain and specialises in designing equipment that creates chips. “I invite them to partner with Assam. We have set a specific goal to make the semiconductor a focal point in the ecosystem in our upcoming electronic city of Jagiroad,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also met Terutoshi Hamano from Toyota Motor Corporation and urged him to set up automobile ancillary units in the state given the robust connectivity in Assam with national and international markets.
