Jihadi activities rife in 7 districts: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday apprised the Assam Legislative Assembly that jihadi activities are going on in Assam and the epicenters are the Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Morigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Tamulpur and Nalbari districts.

As many as 53 jihadis have been arrested from these districts and cases have been registered against them during the tenure of the incumbent state government, Sarma informed the House in a written reply to a question posed by BJP MLA Terash Gowalla.

The Chief Minister also stated that the involvement of Bangladeshi nationals has been established in jihadi activities in the state. A Bangladeshi citizen named Saiful Islam has been arrested for jihadi activities in the state, he said, adding that some other Bangladeshi jihadis are absconding – these include Aminul Islam, Jakir Bhai, Mehmoob Rahman, Mohammed Talah, Jehangir etc. The Chief Minister said these absconding Bangladeshi nationals had made speeches about the jihadi agenda in various madrassas of the state to motivate Muslim youths to join their ranks.
