BOKO: For the first time, Ministers from the neighbouring States of Assam and Meghalaya jointly visited the disputed areas along the inter-state boundary within the Boko Revenue Circle on Monday.

Minister Atul Bora led the Assam team while PHED Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar led the Meghalaya side.

The delegates first visited Hahim and the nearby areas of Athiabari, Aradonga. It may be mentioned that the joint team failed to enter an area that falls within the Athiabari Village as the entry point to the hamlet was blocked with huge boulders and trumps of betel nut trees. After that, the joint team visited the areas of Salbari, Malchapara, Gamerimura, Gohanimara and Gizang.

The joint team also met the representatives of various local organisations at Hahim, Salbari, Malchapara, Gamerimura and Gohanimara.

Minister Bora said that Assam has taken strong steps to resolve boundary disputes with neighbouring states.

Meghalaya Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said that the Meghalaya team visited the disputed areas for the first time with the Assam counterpart. The purpose of the visit was to know about the ground reality in these disputed areas.

The Meghalaya delegation also included State MLAs Gigur Myrthong from Mawsynrut Constituency, Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang from Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency, West Khasi Hills District DC Timberland Lyngwa, SP H.G. Lyngdoh and other officials. On the other hand, the Assam team included Kamrup district DC Kailash Kartik N., SP Hitesh Ch. Roy, former MLA of Boko Constituency Jyoti Prasad Das and other officials.

Later during the day, members of the joint team visited the Jirang area under the Palashbari Constituency of Assam.
