GUWAHATI: Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, senior Judge of Uttarakhand High Court was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on Sunday.

Chief Justice (Acting), Gauhati High Court Justice N. Kotiswar Singh administered the oath of officeon behalf of the Governor of Assam Prof. JagdishMukhi.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Dhulia assumed the charge of office and interacted with the Puisne Judges and officers of the Registry.

A press release issued by the Registrar (Administration) of Gauhati High Court, Romen Baruah states that Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia was born on August 10, 1960. He did his earlier school from Dehradun, Allahabad and Lucknow, and graduated from Allahabad University in 1981. He completed his Masters in Modern History in 1983 and LL.B in 1986.He initially practiced on the Civil and Constitutional side before the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. Later, Justice Dhulia shifted his practice to the newly created High Court of the State of Uttarakhand at Nainital, where he was appointed as the first Chief Standing Counsel of the Government and later as Additional Advocate General, and was designated as Senior Advocate in June, 2004. Justice Dhulia was elevated as a permanent Judge of Uttarakhand High Court on November 1, 2008.

The swearing-in- ceremony was conducted at a solemn function in presence of the Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan on Sunday. The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Law and Justice, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister ShantanuBharali, Judges of Gauhati High Court, members from legal fraternity, Chief Secretary JishnuBarua, DGP BhaskarJyotiMahanta and other senior officials of the State.
