Kaziranga National Park breaks records in tourists' footfall and revenue collection

GUWAHATI: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP&TR) broke records in tourists' footfall and revenue collection in the tourist season 2021-22 ended on May 31, 2022. It is indeed a good sign for the tourism and wildlife sectors in the state.

According to (KNP&TR) Director Jatindra Sarma, 2,75,835 tourists – 2,74,116 domestic and 1,719 foreign – visited the UNESCO World Heritage Park from October 2021 to May 2022.

It set an all-time record revenue collection of Rs 6,39,23,389.

The last highest records of tourists' footfall and revenue collection in the park were in the tourist season of 2017-18. As many as 1,88,376 tourists visited the park in that year, leading to the collection of Rs 5,60,66,795 as revenue.

In the 2020-21 tourist season, 1,67,644 tourists visited the park, leading to a revenue collection of Rs 3,60,00,611. Covid-19 affected the tourist flow to the park during 2019-20 and 2020-21.

Talking to The Sentinel, the KNP&TR Director said, "Peaceful atmosphere is the prerequisite for tourists' inflow. The situation in Assam is peaceful now. It is wooing tourists. The animal sighting was much alluring in the just-concluded tourist season. Apart from rhinoceros, the visitors had glimpses of tigers. The increased rhino and deer populations also made the park more alluring. Visitors thronged the park even during the lean period of April-May. The visit of President Ram Nath Kovind, Lok Sabha Om Birla, the members of a high-level standing committee of the Lok Sabha and the Ambassadors of different countries to the park boosted its image. We are trying to woo more tourists in the next tourist season."

The park will remain closed from today till further order.
