Kendriya Vidyalayas In Northeast Outshine Other Schools

GUWAHATI: Kendriya Vidyalayas in the north-eastern States have outshined all other schools in terms of academic performance under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2019.

In the recently declared results of the Classes-X and XII final examinations, the Kendriya Vidyalayas have scored the highest pass percentage than any other school in the NE region.

In the Class-X exam results, while the pass percentage of Kendriya Vidyalayas was 98.47, it was 95.13% among Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. While private schools scored pass percentage of 92.73, the percentage of pass in government schools was the lowest at 52.67.

In the Class-XII examination results, while the pass percentage of Kendriya Vidyalayas was 95.84; it was 90.40% among the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. While the independent or private schools scored pass percentage of 79.29; the government schools registered 54.92%

“In last few years, the Kendriya Vidyalayas could not perform brilliantly as expected. Reasons may vary but the Kendriya Vidyalayas have once again started shining in the CBSE exams results,” a source said.

The development has come at a time when the Kendriya Vidyalayas are facing criticism for their alleged negligence towards teaching Assamese language to their students.

The Abhibhayak Oikya Manch, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara recently sent a memorandum to the Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi demanding introduction of Assamese language as a compulsory subject from Classes I to X in the school.

On other hand, the government schools of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim have always been poor performers under the CBSE. Their results have not improved despite receiving regular instructions from the CBSE office. It was an exception this year too. The government schools have scored the lowest pass percentage among all other in the North East.
