GUWAHATI: Veteran Congress leader and former Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Prithivi Majhi has held the state leadership responsible for the present plight of the Congress in the state. He said the state leadership of the party ignores senior leaders.

Talking to The Sentinel today, Majhi said, "Because of the faulty policy of the leadership in the state, the party is losing its ground in Upper Assam. The state leadership denied tickets to many senior leaders of the party in the last general election. They also did not consult the senior leaders on the poll strategy. If a party leadership denies a ticket to a senior leader, it behoves him to specify the reason. It is common courtesy.

"I joined the Congress in 1978, became an MLA, Speaker of the State Assembly and elected to the Rajya Sabha. I will always be with Congress, but my son joined the BJP a few days back. And the state Congress leadership is responsible for that.

"Initially, I prevented my son from joining the BJP. However, I could not stop him later. He moved closer to the BJP and joined it."

In the recent bye-poll to five LACs in the state, the Congress drew blank.
