Make HSLC Examination Modalities Public: All Assam Students' Union (AASU)

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has urged the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) to make public the modalities for holding the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) 2021 examinations.

At a meeting with the SEBA officials, the students' body discussed the suggestions and opinions of various teachers' associations and students' guardians on holding the HSLC examinations.

The ASSU had meetings with various teachers' associations and the guardians of students and sought their suggestions with regards to the HSLC examinations, 2021.

The meeting with the SEBA officials on Friday was on the suggestions and opinions of the teachers' associations, guardians and also of scholars of the state with whom the AASU had consulted earlier.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said, "In today's meeting, how the examinations will be held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was discussed."

"We have also asked the SEBA officials to conduct the exams as soon as possible, and let us know the number of subjects/papers the students will have to appear," he added.

Further, the AASU urged the SEBA for additional examination centres to be set up, apart from the already proposed centres to ensure social distancing.

The SEBA officials said that the board has already identified an additional 232 centres to conduct the HSLC examinations, and as per requirement those centres would be used.

AASU's general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "In today's meeting SEBA officials confirmed that the board is completely ready to conduct the HSLC examinations."

On the examination schedule, the general secretary said, "The State faces floods in July, and hence we have highlighted it before the SEBA."

The general secretary also said that the SEBA will spend Rs 25 per student with regards to COVID-19 safely norms.

Meanwhile, AASU's chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya said,

"The exams should be conducted without wasting the students' academic year and also without compromising their health."

The SEBA officials have assured the AASU leaders of conducting the examinations as soon as the COVID-19 situation in the state improves and the Health Department gives its green signal.
