

DIBRUGARH: MDKG College in collaboration with Akam Foundation inaugurated a children’s library at the adopted village of the college, Nagakhelia. The initiative for the library was taken by the Research, Innovations and Extension cell of the college under the guidance of the principal Dr. Nibedita Phukan. One book shelf each was donated by Dr. Manashi Sharma and Dr. Rizia Laskar and a number of books were donated by the faculty members of the college along with donors from outside the college, prominent among them being Arunav Hazarika. Arunav is a student of Shiksha Valley School, Dibrugarh and he donated 58 books from his personal collection.
Rituparna Neog, founder of Akam foundation, who is intricately associated with library work and children’s reading programmes donated 207 books for the library. During the inaugural function, Rituparna Neog emphasized the need for community participation to keep a library alive. Dr. Nibedita Phukan inaugurated the library and stressed upon the fact that libraries are the foundation through which a better society can be established.
She reiterated that the college has done the initial step of establishing the library but it is of utmost importance that books should be read by the children for whom they are primarily meant. Various members of the village were also present during the function including the president of the Gaon Panchayat, Sanjib Hazarika who in his address emphasized upon the need for education in which library plays an important part.
