GUWAHATI: While launching Mission Basundhara 2.0, the Assam Government had laid emphasis on the fact that the land settlement process should be indigenous-people-friendly. All the applications submitted are being carefully examined and many applications have been rejected in the initial phase itself.
At the time of scrutiny of the applications submitted, it was observed that many applications had been filled incorrectly. Such applications have been rejected in the initial phase itself. Out of 13,39,591 applications submitted, a total of 19,631 applications have been rejected after careful examination and according to sources, many more applications are likely to get rejected as scrutiny of the applications is going on.
To ensure that no applicant resorts to any kind of deceit while applying for land settlement under Mission Basundhara 2.0, the government has introduced the system of geotagging under Mission Basundhara 2.0. According to sources, geotagging has been done against 97% of the total applications received.
Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as a geotagged photograph or video, websites, SMS messages, QR Codes or RSS feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata. This data usually consists of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude, bearing, distance, accuracy data, and place names, and perhaps a time stamp. Geotagging helps users find a wide variety of location-specific information from a device.
The government has instructed the district and subdivision administrations to begin conducting the meetings of the Subdivision Land Advisory Committees (SDLAC). These committees will examine the land settlement applications received and decide which claims are genuine. In rural areas, the recommendation of the SDLAC will be enough for land settlement but in urban areas, the recommendation of the SDLAC will be considered by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, which will give the final approval for land settlement.
According to sources, after the scrutiny of applications, the disposal of land settlement claims will start in August. The government intends to dispose of all applications received under Mission Basundhara 2.0 by November 14.
