GUWAHATI: The Assam Health & Family Welfare department on Monday issued two orders bringing about partial modifications to the 'Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Air Passengers' including Ministers or officials of the Government of Assam.

The order with respect to common air passengers has the following four conditions: "Any air passenger who departs from Assam within 72 hours of arrival need not undergo quarantine, subject to the following conditions: (1) The visitor will provide a copy of return ticket indicating his/ her departure within 72 hours. (2) The visitor shall provide swab sample for Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) immediately on arrival. If the test result is negative, he/ she shall be allowed to proceed. If the test result is positive, he/ she shall have to undergo isolation/ treatment as per the protocol for COVID patients. (3) In case of symptomatic visitors, he/ she shall undergo RT-PCR testing also, even if RAT result is negative, and shall remain in isolation till this test result is declared. (3) The visitor shall comply with all hygiene and social distancing norms during the period of his/ her stay in Assam 5. In case, the visitor exceeds the 72 hours' time frame of stay, he/ she will face penal action and shall be placed in quarantine, as per extant norms. This was stated in the order signed by Samir Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam Health & Family Welfare Department.

The other order pertaining to Ministers and government officials said, "Any Minister or official of the Government of Assam, who returns to Assam after tour to any other State within 96 hours of departure from Assam, need not undergo COVID-19 testing/ quarantine, subject to the condition that he/ she shall comply with all hygiene and social distancing norms during the period of his/ her stay outside Assam.
