GUWAHATI/BARPETA: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that more jihadi modules were active in the state. The statement from the Chief Minister came close on the heels of the arrest of five jihadis from the Barpeta district on Friday night.

Talking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, "The Assam Police formed a special wing to work on the information related to the activities of jihadis and fundamentalists in the state. The recent arrest of five jihadis in the state is a success of the state police. It is a big jihadi module.

"The confessional statements of the five arrested jihadis are an ominous signal for the future of Assam. More jihadi modules are active in the state. We have much to do with the activities of jihadis and fundamentalist groups. The police are developing the information they have on jihadis and fundamentalists."

Meanwhile, Barpeta police are interrogating the five arrested jihadis. The police could gather some information on how Bangladeshi national, Suman alias Shaiful, involved in jihadi activities and ABT (Ansarullah Bangla Team) came to the Barpeta district during the first wave of Covid-19.

According to sources, Shaiful came to Dhakaliyapara in the Barpeta district in the guise of a teacher. He introduced himself that he had studied in Deobandar. He joined a Madrassa at Dhakaliyapara and another Islamic school, "Shaikur Hind Mohamudul Jamiul Huda Islamic Academy" at Joshihatipara near Howly.

Shaiful married a girl at Bijnoi in the Chirang district. He has a daughter from that wedlock. He was staying in the rented house of Akbar Ali of Dhakaliyapara. His wife has been missing for about two months.

Another jihadi, Taimur Rahman, was staying in a rented house at Khandakarpara in the Howly area in the Barpeta district with his second wife. He was working there as a tailor at Khandakarpara Bazar. Taimur's first wife stays in his house at Dhakaliyapara with her two children.
