GUWAHATI: The inquiry into the cash-for-job scam in the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) by the Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission has revealed more anomalies that did not come to light in the investigation conducted by the Dibrugarh Police.

If the State Government takes action based on the findings of this judicial inquiry commission, more ACS and allied cadre officers will face the music.

Following a direction from the Gauhati High Court and affirmation from the Supreme Court of India, the State Government instituted the Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission to inquire into the CCE (Combined Competitive Examination) 2013 and its results declared on May 12, 2015.

According to sources, the report reveals that 37 candidates, who could not qualify the CCE and whose names did not figure in the investigation report of the Dibrugarh Police, also made it to the final selection list of the APSC. The judicial commission also detected serious anomalies like the score of marks in answer booklets not tallying with marks recorded in mark sheets, mismatch between the main answer booklets and additional answer sheets etc.

The judicial commission recorded the anomalies found against each of the anomalous candidates.

The judicial commission also detected anomalies in the custody of the strong room meant for keeping the answer sheets. The probe panel found that the key of the strong room was with people who are not its authorized custodians.

The judicial commission also recommended measures for APSC examination reforms that may help prevent anomalies in the future.

The commission submitted its 700-page report to the State government on April 2, 2022. The report has two parts – the findings of the inquiry and documents that led the commission to the findings.

The report is under examination of the government. According to sources, the Chief Minister will go through the inquiry report to delve deep into it.
