Guwahati: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allocated an additional amount of Rs 540 crore for 6 NE states, including Assam, for incurring expenditure on National Highways (original) under the NE State Pool, for works being executed through state PWDs, MoRTH PIUs and BRO during the financial year 2025-26. With this additional allocation, the total amount allocated has increased to Rs 1,600 crore from the earlier Rs 1,060 crore.
Regarding the revised allocation, MoRTH issued an official communication on June 2, 2025.
According to the revised allocation for incurring expenditure on National Highways (original) under the NE State Pool, Arunachal Pradesh has been allocated the highest amount of Rs 1,300 crore among the NE states. As for the other NE states, Assam has been allocated Rs 120 crore, Meghalaya Rs 135 crore, Manipur Rs 10 crore, Sikkim Rs 30 crore and Tripura Rs 5 crore. The allocation is being made from the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS).
While entertaining the claims on the basis of allocation referred to above, the MoRTH letter urges the officials concerned to ensure that:
(i) Expenditure is incurred only on sanctioned works on National Highways only.
(ii) No claim is entertained for expenditure incurred on any sanctioned works in excess of the sanctioned cost beyond permissible limits.
(iii) No expenditure is admitted on work/portion of the work where it might have been specifically advised not to incur any expenditure pending receipt/approval of certain issues/points.
