GUWAHATI: Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Gaurav Gogoi has written to Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan seeking his reply on the frequently occurring blasts and casualties at the Baghjan oil well under the Oil India Limited (OIL) in Tinsukia.
The text of Gogoi's letter dated September 12, 2020 reads: "Dear Shri Dharmendra Pradhanji,
"With utmost disappointment I would like to again draw your attention towards the frequently occurring blasts and casualties at the Baghjan oil well, at Oil India Limited, Tinsukia, Assam since May, 2020.
"On 9th September, 2020 we yet again lost a valuable life of a young electrical engineer late Arnab Kishore Bordoloi. This is the third casualty at the site. Due to unfortunate explosion, the deaths and injuries are still occurring frequently, the local authorities along with the foreign experts have failed miserably to tackle the situation resulting in chaos in and around the site among the villagers.
"The incident is causing massive destruction to livelihoods in the area, apart from causing major ecological damage. Therefore, people of Assam want to know the reason for the explosion and if any new security measures have been put in place to mitigate such incidents in the future post the explosion in Baghjan."
"Waiting your early response, please."
