MSP for tea leaves, other issues raised before Minister Piyush Goyal

The stakeholders of the tea industry in Assam raised various issues

GUWAHATI: The stakeholders of the tea industry in Assam raised various issues, including MSP (minimum support price) for tea leaves, different agricultural benefits for the small tea growers, a higher number of large-scale bidders at the tea auction etc., before Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal here today.

The Union Minister thoroughly discussed the issues with the participants and assured appropriate measures. After the discussion, the Union Minister requested the stakeholders to submit an elaborate proposal concerning all aspects to examine them in depth for further action.

State Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary was present at the discussion organized by the Tea Board India with support from the State Government.

Issues impacting cost competitiveness and long-term viability and sustainability of the Tea Industry were discussed towards realizing the export potential and productivity, attaining the supply-demand equilibrium, ensuring sustainability and remunerative price for the producers, a press release said.
