GUWAHATI: The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department deleted the names of 4.46 lakh ration beneficiaries and 46,600 ration cards from the database in May 2022.

The clean-ration-card drive is currently underway in the state.

According to Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department sources, the names deleted from the database include the names of dead persons and ineligible beneficiaries, besides bogus ration cards. The drive to clean ration cards will continue.

Meanwhile, the ration card-Aadhaar card seeding (linking) drive has been going on in the state. The state has around 58 lakh ration cards with 91 per cent Aadhaar seeding.

According to rules, families exceeding Rs 1 lakh annual income are not eligible for ration benefits. The department has appealed to ineligible ration beneficiaries afresh to surrender their ration cards. Several ineligible beneficiaries have given their ration cards back to the department.

Ration cards are of two schemes – AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) and PHH (Priority Households).
