STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Irked by the slow progress at the 18.40-km stretch (of the four-lane highway from Nagaon bypass to Dibrugarh), the NHIDCL (National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) has re-allotted this stretch to two firms.

Earlier in December 2015, this work — as a single stretch — was given to M/s TK Engineering Construction Pvt Limited. This firm was supposed to complete the work by November 2018. At that time, the project cost was estimated at Rs 159.2 crore. However sources informed that it could complete only 20.23% of the work.

Now, the NHIDCL has divided this 18.40-km stretch into two parts for construction purposes. The 10-km stretch from the Nagaon bypass to Teleagaon (estimated at Rs 87.11 crore) is being given to TRL Projects & Infrastructure Limited. The remaining stretch of 8.40 km from Teleagaon to Rangagara (estimated at Rs 66.25 crore) is being awarded to Ganga Sagar Singh. The completion time of both the projects is December 2021.

The NHIDCL is a fully owned company of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

Talking to The Sentinel, the Executive Director (P) Regional Office NE, NHIDCL, Pankaj Singh said, "Already both the firms have started their work on this stretch of the four-lane highway."
