National Investigation Agency files first charge sheet against 8 for 'terror link'

The NIA filed its first charge sheets in its Special Court, Guwahati, against eight people today for their alleged link with terrorist organizations.

GUWAHATI: The NIA (National Investigation Agency) filed its first charge sheets in its Special Court, Guwahati, against eight people today for their alleged link with terrorist organizations. The charges against the eight arrested people in Assam are that they are members of the Islamist Terrorist organization ABT (Ansarullah Bangla Team), besides waging an Islamic state war conspiracy against the Government of India.

Seven of the eight are from Barpeta, and one is from Tripura. They are – Saiful Islam, Khairul Islam, Badshah Sulaiman, Naushad Ali, Mamunur Rashid, Imran Hassan, Mukbul Hussain and Mufti Sulaiman. According to sources, the Assam Police arrested around 40 people from different parts of the state for their alleged links with Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and ABT.
