GUWAHATI: The state government has created a new administrative service to cater to the needs of various municipal bodies of Assam.
The service has been named as the 'Assam Urban Administrative Service'. Recruitment to the service will be done via a Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) which will be conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
The new administrative posts will fall under the jurisdiction of the state's Housing & Urban Affairs Department. The total number of such posts will be 103 and the officers concerned will be posted in various municipal boards of Assam.
In another welcome development for job-seekers in the state, the government is planning to include recruitment to the new service in the next CCE to be conducted by the APSC.
It is pertinent to mention that the APSC had issued an advertisement on December 22 last for the CCE 2022 for recruitment of 793 Assam Civil Service (ACS) and Allied Service officers.
However, on December 21 last the state government had put in abeyance the provision for reservation of 10 per cent of directly recruited posts in various government services for candidates from Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Significantly, the advertisement issued by the APSC for CCE 2022 mentioned that 99 posts out of 793 will be reserved for EWS candidates. As a result of the dichotomy, the APSC had to issue a Notification on December 24 to announce deferral of the online submission of applications for CCE 2022.
In view of the fact that the APSC will now have to issue a fresh advertisement for the next CCE, the state government is planning to incorporate recruitment to the 103 posts under the Assam Urban Administrative Service in the examination process. The Department of Personnel has already initiated movement of the relevant file for the purpose.
In case the next CCE includes recruitment to the new service, then the total number of posts will go up to around 900, which will be the largest-ever recruitment drive through the APSC's CCE. The CCE is conducted in accordance with the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules, 1989 (as amended till 2022).
