
Dispur to launch portal for mutual transfer and ink MoUs with banks for additional insurance coverage

GUWAHATI: In store in its New Year basket for employees and entrepreneurs, the Assam Government is going to launch a mutual transfer portal for its employees, sign MoUs with banks for insurance coverage of government employees, and launch the next phase of the Mukhya Mantrir Atmonirbhor Asom Abhijan.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government would launch the portal for mutual transfer among government employees on January 1, 2025, and the portal would remain open till February 28 so as to let the interested employees apply.
In cases of mutual transfer, two interested employees of the same rank need to apply together through the portal. After verification of their applications, the administration will take the applicants’ nod online and approve the transfer.
On employees’ insurance cover, the Chief Minister said that the Cabinet had decided in its Lakhimpur sitting to provide additional insurance benefits in case of accidental deaths or injuries of employees while on duty. Under this insurance benefit, if an in-service employee dies naturally, his kin will get Rs 5-10 lakh additional insurance benefits. If an on-duty in-service employee dies in an accident, his kin will get an insurance compensation amount of Rs 1 crore. If an employee becomes permanently disabled in any accident while on duty, he will get a compensation of Rs 70 lakh.
The Chief Minister said, “To make this happen, the government is going to sign MoUs with banks like SBI, Union Bank of India, and others on January 1, 2025.”
The Chief Minister said that the government would launch the next phase of the Mukhya Mantrir Atmonirbhor Asom Abhijan from January 1, 2025. The drive is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance among the youths of the state. Under this abhiyan, selected beneficiaries will get Rs 5 lakh each in the professional course category and Rs 2 lakh each in the non-professional course category.
Worried over road fatalities in the state, the Chief Minister appealed to the public again to remain alert from December-end to January 15 when accidents peak in Assam. The Chief Minister made it a point that nobody in the state should mix driving and drinking on the night of December 31. According to the Chief Minister, on average 3,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in the state yearly. “However, we have been able to reduce road fatalities by 15 percent this year. Our efforts to bring down the rate of road fatalities will continue. We want cooperation from the public,” he said.
