NHIDCL to develop jet landing facility on bypass in Assam

GUWAHATI: In a first of its kind in Assam, NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) will develop a 3.5-km stretch with an emergency fighter jet-landing facility on National Highway-37 in Assam.

According to NHIDCL sources, the chosen stretch for the emergency landing of fighter jets is on the 11.5-km Moran Bypass, which is part of the 26.9-km Demow— End of Moran Bypass four-laning package. NHIDCL conducted several rounds of discussion with the Indian Air Force (IAF) in this regard. Construction of the 3.5-km stretch for the emergency fighter jet-landing facility will be according to IAF's standard drawing. The width of the road in that facility has to be 60 metres.

According to sources, NHIDCL earlier awarded the 26.9-km package from Demow—End of Moran Bypass to M/s Gannon Dunkerley Company Ltd (GDCL) at a sanctioned cost of Rs 385.57 crore. NHIDCL had to terminate the contract with GDCL in mid-2022 due to the slow progress of work by the construction company. After retendering, NHIDCL Headquarters in New Delhi awarded the package afresh to M/s Mohan Lal Jain recently.

NHIDCL expects that the work of this package will resume in December this year.
