NHIDCL to spend Rs 998 crore to boost South Bank connectivity in Kamrup

GUWAHATI: The NHIDCL (National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.) has taken up two more national highway stretches for the development of road connectivity on the South Bank of the Brahmaputra in the Kamrup and the Kamrup (M) districts.

The stretches are from Dhupdhara Sahar in the Kamrup district to VIP Chowk (near LGBI Airport) in the Kamrup Metro district. The stretches have a length of 61 km. NHIDCL Headquarters (New Delhi) has already awarded the work at a cost of Rs 998.4 crore. These stretches are part of the four-lane project from Bilasipara to Guwahati on NH-17.

NHIDCL has divided the entire stretch from Dhupdhara Sahar in the Kamrup district to VIP Chowk into two projects. The first project is the widening and improvement to four-lane with paved shoulders from Dhupdhara Sahar to Milmila Reserve Forest (before Chhaygaon Market) on EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) mode under the Bharatmala Pariyojana in economic corridors. The award cost of this 33.68-km project is Rs 458.47 crore.

The second project is the widening and improvement to four-lane with paved shoulders from Milmila Reserve Forest to the approach of Airport Junction (VIP Chowk) on EPC mode under Bharatmala Pariyojana in economic corridors. The award cost of this 27.32-km project is Rs 539.93 crore.

After tendering, NHIDCL awarded the works of these two projects to Anil Das-Sailaja Commercial Construction Pvt. Ltd. (JV). After some formalities, NHIDCL will issue an appointment date to the contractor to start the work. According to sources, if everything goes as planned, the work will start in July or August this year.

At present, the NH from Dhupdhara Sahar in the Kamrup district to VIP Chowk has two lanes.
