New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a second arrest in the horrifying Jiribam killings case, which shook Manipur in November 2024. The arrested individual, Lalrosang Hmar alias Rosang, hails from Moinathol village and Dilkhosh Grant in Cachar district, Assam, and was apprehended in Aizawl, Mizoram on Thursday.

The arrest follows closely after the NIA and Assam Police jointly nabbed another accused, Thanglienlal Hmar, also from Aizawl, a day earlier. Both are allegedly active conspirators in the gruesome killings. The case pertains to the abduction and brutal murder of three women and three children in the Borobekra area of Manipur’s Jiribam district on November 11, 2024. The victims' bodies were later recovered from the Barak River, a crime that led to widespread public outrage.

During the arrest, the NIA recovered a mobile phone and SIM card from Lalrosang. These items are currently being forensically examined as part of the ongoing investigation under case RC-15/2024/NIA/IMP.

The NIA continues to pursue leads in the case as it builds a comprehensive charge sheet against those involved in the coordinated act of violence.
