BOKAJAN: Nine cadres of the newly floated militant outfit, Adivasi People's Liberation Army (APLA), including its deputy 'c-in-c' and a self-styled major, joined the mainstream by laying down their weapons in a function at the Khatkhati Police Station in the Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday night.

The surrendered militants are self-styled deputy c-in-c Jayanta Hao (31), self-styled area commander Dimesh Urang (26), self-styled major general Sahato Yimchunger (24), Bimal Topno (45), Sotu Karmakar (24), Gopal Baraik (38), Chowja Shyam ( 23), Joseph Barla (38) and Paul Kharia (34).

Six of the nine surrendered militants are from Karbi Anglong, two from Golaghat and one from Dimapur (Nagaland).

The laid-down arms include a semi-auto .22 rifle, an SBBL gun, a handmade rifle (khaja), a .22 rifle, a .32 pistol, two grenades and 32 rounds of .22 live ammunition.

The militants surrendered before Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia at Khatkhati Police Station. Bokajan SDPO John Das was also present at the arms-laying event.
