Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the national capital and briefed her on the state's ongoing response to the recent floods, including the damage assessment and roadmap for rebuilding affected areas and restoring livelihoods.
Speaking about his meeting with the Union Finance Minister, the CM said, "It is always a pleasure to meet Finance Minister Sitharaman Ji, who has consistently been a strong champion of Assam's interests and aspirations."
During the meeting, the Chief Minister apprised the Union Finance Minister of Assam's flood response, with particular focus on the ongoing assessment of damage caused by the floods and the slew of measures on the anvil for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of affected areas.
He also outlined the state government's roadmap for restoring livelihoods and extending assistance to flood-affected families in the worst-hit Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts as part of the next phase of the response.
The CM said the Union Finance Minister heard about Assam's concerns 'with great attention and sensitivity' and expressed gratitude for her positive response to the state's requirements.
Sitharaman, on her part, assured the Chief Minister that the Government of India would continue to stand firmly with Assam as the state works towards helping flood-affected families rebuild their lives.
The CM expressed his gratitude to Sitharaman for her positive response and assurance that the Central Government will stand firmly with Assam.
Following his meeting with Sitharaman, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi at his residence in New Delhi and held discussions on key priorities for Assam, including education, food and civil supplies, and renewable energy.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister described the interaction as a 'very productive meeting'. He said, "Our discussions covered key priorities for Assam across education, food and civil supplies, and renewable energy."
The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister 'for his positive approach and continued support for Assam'.
