Government to review situation since Durga Puja: Health Minister

GUWAHATI: For the first time, no fresh fatality got recorded in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state on Tuesday. Till Tuesday, the state's death toll in the pandemic was 5,957. The positivity rate of new Covid-19 cases in Assam reached 0.89 per cent (39,654 tests done) on Tuesday.

According to an official bulletin of the National Health Mission (NHM), the state has recorded a total of 353 Covid-19 positive cases taking the total caseload to 6,07,119. Of the 355 new cases, 152 are in the Kamrup Metro district. The recovery rate still stands at 98.43 per cent for the day. After the discharge of 229 patients from various hospitals today, the state now has 2,238 positive cases. 30 Covid positive cases got reported from Barpeta, 28 from Jorhat, 18 from Cachar on the day, the bulletin said.

The daily positivity rate came down to 0.73 per cent (total cases 298) on October 18 after it touched 1.06 per cent (total cases 205) on October 17. The rate was 0.82 per cent (total cases 269) on October 16 and 0.93 per cent (total cases 147) on October 15. The Covid positivity rate has slightly jumped to 1.53 per cent (total cases 206) on October 14 from 0.85 per cent (total cases 175) on October 13.

Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the government would review the Covid situation in the state since Durga Puja. "We will decide the next course of action depending on the prevailing situation," Mahanta added.
