GUWAHATI: NESO (North East Students' Organization) and the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) hailed the partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act (AFSPA) from the Northeast. They, however, demanded the total withdrawal of the Act from the region. In a statement, NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa and adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya said, "For a long time, we have been demanding for a longtime for the withdrawal of the AFSPA from the Northeast. In the name of tackling insurgency in the Northeast, the common people of the region have been facing harassment."
