GUWAHATI: Rebels from Northeast India are in the good book of the Military Junta in Myanmar, police sources said.

According to police sources, the Military Junta and rebel groups from Northeast India have developed a symbiotic relationship in which the rebels get their lost bases in Myanmar. In return, the Military Junta uses the Northeast rebels' firepower to subdue the movement by those who believe in democracy in that country.

The Operation All-Clear launched by the Royal Bhutan Army in 2003 disarrayed the ULFA and other Northeast rebel groups taking shelter in the Himalayan Kingdom.

The Myanmarese Army did launch an operation in 2019 and drove the rebels from Northeast India away. It was at that time that a large number of cadres of the rebel groups contacted the Indian Army and surrendered.

However, taking advantage of the infighting in Myanmar now, the rebel groups from the Northeast, including the ULFA, are regrouping in Myanmar, police sources claimed. The latest trend of youth from the state joining the ULFA might have some connection with this development, the police sources said.
