GUWAHATI: A person left out from the NRC (National Register of Citizens) will be able to cast vote in the Assembly polls if his/her name figures in the electoral roll, confirmed CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) of India Sunil Arora here on Wednesday.

He added, "The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has already clarified that a person cannot be declared as a foreigner simply because his/her name does not figure in the NRC. A person will be deemed as a foreigner only if an FT (Foreigners Tribunal) declares that person to be a foreigner."

The process of receiving the NRC application forms commenced during the fag end of May 2015 and it was closed on August 31, 2015. Altogether 3,30,27,661 people had applied for inclusion of their names in the final NRC published on August 31, 2019. Of them, while 3,11,21,004 people were found to be eligible for inclusion, that of 19,06,657 others were found to be ineligible.
