October Deadline for DPR of Flyover in Kaziranga National Park

GUWAHATI: Preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ambitious Elevated Road Project or Flyover at Kaziranga National Park is underway raising hopes and optimism of a unique wildlife conservation at the world-famed park.

The proposed elevated road or flyover on the National Highway 37 covering areas stretching from Jhakhalabondha to little beyond Kohora will pass through Kazirana. The total length and width of the elevated road will be 38.84 km and 11 meter respectively.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is currently preparing the DPR and expected to complete the report by the end of this year.

The project was thoroughly discussed during the 11th State Board of Wildlife meeting held on Wednesday under the chair of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Highlighting the importance of the project, Sonowal stressed completion and submission of the DPR within October. He said once the elevated road project is completed in Kaziranga, it would be one of the major tourists’ attraction and prime example of wildlife conservation.

Forest & Environment Parimal Suklabaidya who was also present at the meeting told The Sentinel on Friday that going by the execution of the plan the project will start in 2021. He said the project is not entangled in any legal hassle so far and it will be an environment-friendly scheme.

Suklabaidya said the elevated road will have separate stretches for cyclists and pedestrians. He said plantation will be one of the major attractions of the project to be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,625 crore.
