ONGC official killed in accidental pipeline blast

SIVASAGAR, March 12: A senior ONGC officer was killed in an accidental blast at the Oil and tural Gas Corporation (ONGC) unit under Assam Asset in Sivasagar district on Friday.

Mohendrath Borgohain, deputy superintending engineer, was killed when the high compressor of a gas pipe exploded during repair. The accident occurred at the oil rig no. 2004 located at Laipleng near Patsaku.

Seriously injured Borgohain was rushed to Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

According to reports, on Friday in the morning hours, Borgohain was repairing the pipe which was connected to the compressor unit of the rig that exploded. He suffered serious injuries. Employees rushed him to AMCH where he was declared brought dead.

Borgohain's body, after autopsy, was handed over to his family which resides at Gargaon in Sivasagar district. Borgohian leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.

The ONGC authorities have ordered a departmental probe into the cause of explosion.

Meanwhile, security personnel of ONGC engaged in a confrontation with jourlists, who were denied access to the accident site.
