PAB meet unveils school infrastructure status in Assam

GUWAHATI: What goes unnoticed on the education front in Assam is the status of the physical progress of school infrastructure.

The recent meeting between the PAB (Project Approval Board) and the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Assam, revealed that – of the 73,341 additional classrooms sanctioned at the elementary level – works of 71,889 rooms are complete, and works of 558 rooms are going on, and works of 894 rooms are still to start.

At the secondary level, of the 2,464 additional classrooms sanctioned – the works of 2254 rooms are complete, 123 rooms are in progress, and works of 87 classrooms are yet to start.

At the higher secondary level, of the 63 additional classrooms sanctioned, only 13 of them are complete.

Of the 3,330 drinking water facilities sanctioned at the elementary level, 2,292 facilities are complete. At the secondary level, the works of 206 of 350 sanctioned drinking water facilities are complete.

The works of 17,165 of 20,616 boys' toilet facilities sanctioned at the elementary level are complete. The works of 3,147 toilet facilities for boys are still to start.

In the case of girls, the works of 42,516 of the 43,172 sanctioned toilet facilities are complete. The construction of 562 such facilities is yet to start.

At the secondary level, the works of 643 of the 950 sanctioned boys' toilet facilities are complete. In the case of girls, 693 of the 1,045 sanctioned toilet facilities are complete. The work of 344 such facilities is yet to start.

For CWSN (Children With Special Needs) at the elementary level, the works of 10,929 of 11,012 toilets facilities are complete, and that of 53 such facilities are yet to start.

At the secondary level, only 66 of the 211 sanctioned CWSN toilet facilities are complete.

The constructions of 12,449 of the 14,657 sanctioned ramps at the elementary level are complete. The works of 1,714 ramps are yet to start.

The construction of 4,212 of the 5,056 primary school buildings sanctioned is complete. The works of 303 buildings have not yet started. Likewise, 95 of the 1058 sanctioned library rooms, 1,662 of the 2,188 sanctioned science laboratories and 172 of the 264 sanctioned art and craft rooms are complete at the secondary level.

None of the 31 sanctioned library rooms and 20 sanctioned art and craft rooms is complete at the higher secondary level.
