Guwahati: The process for filing of nomination papers by candidates for the Panchayat poll 2025 ended at 3 pm today. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on Saturday, and the list of valid nominations will be published after 3 pm.
The polling for Panchayat Election 2025 will be held in two phases. In the first phase, on May 2, polling will be conducted in Upper Assam and Barak Valley districts. The second phase of polling will take place on May 7 in the Middle Assam districts and Lower Assam. The counting of ballots for both phases will be done on May 11, 2025.
The filing of nomination papers for both phases of polling concluded today.
The total number of voters in the Panchayat Election 2025 is 1,80,36,682, which is 13.27% more than that in the last Panchayat Election held in December 2018. There will be a total of 25,007 polling stations across the districts where the election is scheduled to take place.
The Panchayat Election 2025 will be held to elect 21,920 Goan Panchayat members, 2,192 Anchalik Panchayat members and 397 Zilla Parishad members.
The polls will be held in 27 districts, barring the sixth schedule districts, which do not have the Panchayati Raj system.
Meanwhile, the General Administration Department declared public holidays on May 2 (for the 1st phase election) and May 7, 2025 (for the 2nd phase of the election) in the respective districts on account of the Panchayat Election, 2025.
All government and non-government offices, educational institutions and business establishments, including banks, tea gardens, etc., falling within the Panchayat election area, where polling will be held on the above-mentioned two days, will remain closed as public holidays, as per the N.I. Act 1881.
