Panel on xatras gives data-acquiring format across Assam

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Commission for Review & Assessment of Problems of Sattra Lands in Assam (CRAPSLA) has sent a format to all Deputy Commissioners via letters for use in collecting information regarding details of status of land owned by xatras across the state.

The Revenue and Disaster Management had formed the three-member CRAPSLA, headed by MLA Pradip Hazarika, after approval by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ascertain the quantum of land belonging to various xatras which is under encroachment. The other two members are MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Rupak Sarma. The format devised by the CRAPSLA will help it to pinpoint the xatra land which is under encroachment.

The data sought via the Deputy Commissioners includes the time of establishment of the xatra concerned and whether it was set up by any king or royalty; details regarding present status of xatra land; the quantum of encroachment of land, if any; in case of encroachment, the identity of the encroacher(s); whether any step was taken earlier by the government to free encroached xatra land; the number of bhakats in each xatra and the details of management committees concerned, etc.

It may be mentioned that members of the commission have already made several field visits to various xatras.
