GUWAHATI: From this month, two more districts of the State – Kamrup and Bongaigaon – are set to join the club where PPOs (Pension Payment Orders) are given to employees on the very dates of their retirement. The only other district to achieve this feat is Kamrup (Metro).

An employee after retirement having to run from pillar to post to get his/her pension papers cleared is something that cannot be approved in any civilized society.

Under its newly-launched 'Kritagyata Scheme' of the State government, the Department of Pension & Public Grievances started PPOs in Kamrup (M) district as a pilot project in 2020. The objective of this scheme is to give an employee his/her PPO on the very day of his/her retirement. This scheme is to cover the teachers and employees of schools up to the Higher Secondary-level and also employees under the 'Panchayati Raj Institutions' (PRI). However, as of now, the PRI employees have not been brought under this scheme.

Talking to The Sentinel, Pension & Public Grievances Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury said, "The 'Kritagyata Scheme' in Kamrup (M) district is doing well. From this month, Kamrup and Bongaigaon districts are also going to join this club. In the next phase, Barpeta, Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao and Dibrugarh districts are going to be added to the list."
