GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are bound for Assam—Shah on August 29 and Modi on September 8, 2025—to take part in a slew of programmes.

The Chief Minister said that during his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate NRL’s Bio-Refinery Project producing ethanol and address a public meeting there. He will then leave for Mangaldai, where he will lay foundation stones for Guwahati Ring Road, Kurua-Narangi Bridge over the Brahmaputra, and Darrang Medical College. He will come back to Guwahati and open the year-long birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

The Chief Minister said that during his visit to Guwahati on August 29, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the new Raj Bhawan at Kharguli, address the convention of the NDA panchayat members, take part as the chief guest at the birth centenary of former Assam Chief Minister Golap Borbora, and launch the state government’s venture to open a cooperative society in every village. The Chief Minister said that the cooperative societies would take possession of vacant government lands in villages and use them for productive activities like agriculture, dairy, etc., so as to prevent their encroachment.

The Chief Minister launched a portal, ‘bhupenda-centenrial.in.’ People willing to attend the September 8 function of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary need to apply through this portal. The Chief Minister said that the organizers of the function would invite 50 select individuals, who had a connection to Dr. Hazarika in some way or the other, from each district. One thousand artistes will sing a melody mix of Dr. Hazarika’s classics in chorus in Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and English on that day. The programme will see the prime minister releasing the biography of Dr. Hazarika in different languages. The Prime Minister will also release a commemorative coin on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
