GUWAHATI: Assam will get a picture of its constituency-wise political maps with the State Election Department set to finalise the exact number of polling stations in the state on November 10. At the instruction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Election Department is rationalizing the polling stations (post-delimitation exercise) and preparing the constituency-wise maps.

According to sources in the State Election Department, the state had 28,205 polling stations before the delimitation exercise. In post-delimitation, the department speculates that the number of polling stations in the state may go up to 30,000, as the mapping of polling stations is based on the delimitation order.

The department has already sent the guidelines for the rationalization of polling stations to the district administrations. According to the guidelines, some of the districts have already published their draft polling stations for the public and political parties to raise objections, if any, within seven days. The department has asked all district authorities to send their respective final lists of polling stations to the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office by November 3, 2023. The Election Department will send all the maps of constituencies and the lists of polling stations to the Election Commission of India for approval. The department expects that the entire process will conclude by November 10, 2023.
