GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) is ready to hold the presidential poll with the Election Commission of India (ECI) handing over the ballot box and other poll-related materials to an ALA team yesterday. The ALA team led by ARO (Assistant Returning Officer) Rajib Bhattacharya received the presidential poll materials in New Delhi from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

The ALA team brought the poll materials to Guwahati last night. The team brought the materials from the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport to the Assembly Secretariat following the ECI security protocol. In the presence of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam Nitin Khade and ARO Dulal Pegu, the team kept the poll materials in safe custody in the strongroom. The strongroom of the ALA campus has CCTV cameras and security personnel.

Talking to The Sentinel today, ARO Dulal Pegu said, "The voting on the secret ballots will start at 10 am and conclude at 5 pm on July 18. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, printed the ballot papers and handed them over to us. All the poll materials are in safe custody in the strongroom."

The counting of votes will be on July 21 in New Delhi.

MLAs and MPs vote in the presidential poll. This time, the presidential poll is a straight fight between NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu and Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
