Principal of Bhawanipur Anchalik College Dr Mukunda Sharma Suspended

GUWAHATI: Dr Mukunda Sharma, Principal of Bhawanipur Anchalik College in the Barpeta district, has been suspended for participating in a protest against the draft delimitation proposal published by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

In an order issued by the Director of Higher Education, Assam, it was stated that pending departmental proceeding against Dr Mukunda Sharma as per the Assam Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, he has been placed under suspension for “participating in agitation programme against constitutional authority with immediate effect”.

Regarding his suspension, State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, while talking to media persons in Guwahati today, said, “A person working under a constitutional authority cannot challenge any other constitutional authority. The Election Commission is a constitutional authority. Political parties and organizations can express their opinions and objections to the draft delimitation proposal before the Election Commission.

“Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has created an agitation-free environment in the State. In such a situation, if anyone takes the path of agitation it cannot be accepted. Hence, he (Dr Mukunda Sharma) has been suspended.”
