Priyanka Chopra to promote Assam Tourism as brand ambassador

GUWAHATI, Dec 19: In what could be a big push for Assam tourism, Bollywood star and Hollywood wanbe of ‘Quantico’ fame Priyanka Chopra will now promote the State as a tourist destition on the world stage.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, State Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Priyanka Chopra has signed a contract for promoting Assam tourism for a period of two years. She will be visiting the State on December 24 for a meet with intertiol tour operators as her first assignment for the State.”

The BJP-led government in the State which assumed office only seven months back, had been on the lookout for a prominent persolity to promote the State’s tourism potential intertiolly, according to Sarma.

The mes of cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone among others were doing the rounds in this regard.

Sharma further said Chopra will feature in still and video advertisements for the State and the advertisements will be displayed or broadcast globally, without confining to India. “We will concentrate on countries like UK, USA, Japan and Germany, which have a connection with us,” he added.

The fincial component for the tourism campaign will be announced in next year’s budget, Sarma said.

Sarma said that Chopra will not charge anything for the assignment except professiol charges for the work she will do, which includes photo shoots and television commercials.

“We will make the brand campaign of Assam Tourism global. Television commercials, photographs will be prepared. We will carry out campaigns in United States, England and Japan. We will target the countries with which Assam has historical ties,” the minister said, adding, “We have chosen her as she is the best at the moment.” (With IANS inputs)
