GUWAHATI: The Education Department has started the process for the transfer of teachers from the high PTR (pupil-teacher ratio) schools to the low PTR schools.

The department had formed district-level monitoring committees to assess the pupil-teacher ratio and suggest the transfer of teachers from high PTR schools to low PTR ones.

According to sources in the department, the 22 district monitoring committees have submitted their reports. The committees have found 1,131 more teachers exceeding the pupil-teacher ratio. The Nalbari district has the highest number of excess teachers (203), and the Charaideo district has the lowest number (5). The 1,131 excess teachers comprise 27 postgraduate teachers, 993 graduate teachers, 79 HS passed, etc.

Meanwhile, Samagra Siksha, Asom (SSA) has directed 4,300 CRCCs (Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators) to report to their respective schools for duty.

According to SSA, most of the CRCCs are science and mathematics teachers, and their engagement as CRCCs affects teaching in schools. The rules bar the engagement of science and mathematics teachers and headmasters as CRCCs. However, most of the science and mathematics teachers have been engaged as CRCCs. The rules also say that the CRCCs should be from schools that have excess teachers for engagement for a specific period of time, after which they need to report to their respective schools for teaching. However, the violation of the rules is such that even there are teachers who have been on CRCC engagement for as long as ten years.
