GUWAHATI: AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has said that after the two phases of the poll in Assam it's a sure shot for the Congress-led Mahajoot to form the next government in Assam.

Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Friday, Surjewala said, "After the first two phases of polls, it is evident that the Congress led 'Mahajot' is set to win 101 seats. After the result on May 2, the 'Mahajot' will form the next Government at Dispur on May 4 and initiate the process for implementation of the 5 Guarantees on May 5.

"Assam often gives individual opportunities, tests their perseverance and then accepts them as its own. However, anyone who betrays this State is wholly rejected. The people of Assam are going in the correct direction in the first two phases and showed the BJP the door.

"The BJP Government has continuously tried to portray that it's a winning political party. The truth is just the opposite. After the 2014 elections, the BJP has not won big majority in any of the big State elections apart from Uttar Pradesh. The BJP is facing a series of losses in Assembly elections since 2016.

"With their defeat looming large, the BJP is trying to manipulate EVMs now. EVMs were found in the car of BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul after the second phase of polling in the State. If the ECI doesn't wake up even now and remains mute, it will be fatal for democracy.

"I'm asking six questions to the ECI.

Why was EVMs recovered from BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul's car?

Why were EVMs found in the boot of a luxury car near Hatipura Polling Station in Diphu?

Why were officials carrying EVMs in Jamunukh without any accompanying security officials in violation of ECI mandate?

Whether voters in Kalaigaon complained of EVM disappearing from the booth? What inquiry was held? What action was taken?

Whether some suspicious officials were found inside the strong room in Dibrugarh? What action was taken?

Whether as many as 139 polling stations faced serious EVM malfunctioning in the second phase, including Jagiroad, Nagaon, Hojai, Nilbagan, Lumding and others? What action has been taken?"
