GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has urged the State Government to reconsider its decision regarding venture schools. The government had recently announced that from now on, no venture school in the State would be provincialized.
AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah told media persons, "This decision will adversely affect the Assamese-medium schools in the State because most of the venture schools are Assamese-medium schools. The National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 stresses imparting education in the mother tongue/local language at the primary level. But if the government goes ahead with its decision not to provincialize any venture school, Assamese-medium schools will suffer."
"We urge the government to reconsider its decision for the sake of the development of the Assamese language. The government should not forget the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Assam Language Movement," they added.
