GUWAHATI: Directorate of Geology and Mining, Government of Assam, is set to break all-time records in revenue collection in the current financial year.

According to sources in the Directorate, it is possible due to several directives issued from the CMO (Chief Minister’s Office) and constant guidance by the Department of Geology and Mining.

In the first three quarters (nine months from April to December 2022) of this financial year, the Directorate has collected Rs 3176.80 crore. Never before could the Directorate collect such a large amount of revenue in three quarters. The breakup of the revenue collection during the period is as follows: Rs 337.09 crore in April, Rs 332.14 crore in May, Rs 375.20 crore in June, Rs 389.49 crore in July, Rs 378.46 crore in August, Rs 348.93 crore in September, Rs 312.67 crore in October, Rs 360.21 crore in November, and Rs 342.60 crore in December. By March 31, 2023, the total revenue collection of the Directorate is set to cross the Rs 4,000-crore mark.

The revenue collected by the Directorate in 2021–22 was Rs 2538.77 crore and Rs 1489.20 crore in 2020–21.

The Directorate earns revenues mostly from crude oil, natural gas, coal, limestone, other minerals, and a few other sources. The highest revenue comes from crude oil, and OIL (Oil India Ltd.) is the major contributor in this sector.
