Revive paper mills, stop import from China: CPPWU

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: In the wake of Chinese intrusion bid and border skirmishes with India leading to the death of a number of Indian soldiers in Ladakh's Galwan Valley, the Cachar Paper Project Workers' Union (CPPWU) (INTUC) HPC, Assam has dashed a letter to the Prime Minister of India, the Union Finance Minister and Assam Chief Minister requesting them not to import paper from China.

In the letter, CPPWU president Manobendra Chakraborty said that India should stop importing paper from China, and revive the national heavy paper industries of Assam under HPCL (Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd) so as to make India self-reliant, extend the scope of employment to two lakh youths and simultaneously rebuild rural economy of Assam.

"While China is engaged in intrusion and killing of our brave soldiers, it's totally unjustified to import paper from China for protecting Chinese economy at the cost of Indian industries.

"Making Atmanirvar Bharat is the call of time; and thus we are 'vocal about local' to protect the interest of India and its people," the letter said.
