TINSUKIA: In a significant development in wildlife trafficking, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) in a joint operation with Sadiya Forest Range recovered the skin of a Royal Bengal Tiger along with bones and other body parts after intercepting a Ford India vehicle (AS 23V 2160) at the Sadiya side of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dholla-Sadiya Bridge) on Friday evening.

Though the team apprehended the driver, identified as Zakir Hussain (43) of Shaguntali under Lahorighat PS in the Nowgaon district, the mastermind fled the scene. According to Khirod Saikia, Ranger of Sadiya under the Doomdooma Forest Division, traps were laid in several places in Sadiya since morning after receiving specific information about the movement of traffickers by WCCB through Sadiya from Arunachal Pradesh. Doomdooma DFO RS Bharti said that follow-up investigations, including DNA sequence matching, would reveal the habitat of the tiger. The forest personnel have launched a massive operation to trace the main culprit.
