Sarbananda Sonowal’s Cabinet Decides Quota For Economically Backwards

GUWAHATI: In sync with the recently enacted Central Government Act, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s Cabinet, among other matters, has decided to effect ten percent reservation for economically backward classes in Assam.

State Cabinet met on Monday and took a slew of decisions, including a quota for economically backward classes in the State.

After the Cabinet meeting, State Government’s spokesperson and Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary informed the media that other decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting are providing Rs 5,000 each to five lakh famers for buying agricultural implements, hiking the salaries of tea garden labour welfare officers up to Rs 15,000 per month, setting up of maternity hospitals for tea garden women under the Assam Planters’ Provident Fund, release of Rs 95 crore to the Water Resources Department for the repair of embankments and keeping 20 per cent of funds aside for medicos – doctors, nurses, other staff and sweepers – under Ayushman Bharat and Atal Amrit Yojonas.
