GUWAHATI: Assam tops the list of school dropout rate at the secondary level in the country. At the primary level also, the school dropout rate of Assam is above the national average.
According to UDISE+ (United District Information System for Education plus) survey report of 2020-21, at the primary level the school dropout rate of the state was 4.2 for boys and 2.3 for girls and the average is 3.3. The national school dropout rates were 0.8 for boys and 0.7 for girls and average dropout rate was 0.75.
At the upper primary level, the dropout rate was 6.0 for boys, 3.2 for girls and the average was 4.6. At the national level the school dropout rate was 1.6 for boys and 2.3 for boys, and the average was 1.9.
The secondary dropout rate in Assam was 29.0 for boys and 31.4 for girls, and the average was 31.0. It was against the national-level dropout rates of 14.9 for boys, 14.2 for girls and the average dropout of 14.6. The school dropout at the secondary level in Assam was the highest in the country. There was no significant improvement in the UDISE+ school dropout rates of Assam for the year 2020-21 from that 2019-20.
