GUWAHATI: Keeping the scorching heat in the state in view, several district authorities have declared changes in the timing of schooling. The Regional Metrological Centre, Guwahati, has predicted a surge in the maximum temperature in the state up to 39 degrees Celsius in the next four days. The chances of rain during this period are very slim.

Nagaon, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Kamrup, and Kamrup (M) districts have already announced rescheduling their school timings. The other districts in the state may announce changes in school timing by tomorrow.

In its notification, one of the district authorities said, "Lower Primary Schools will have classes from 7.30 a.m. to noon, ME schools from 7.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and high schools from 7.30 a.m. to 1 p.m."

The notification said, "In the interest of public wellbeing, the normal school timing is hereby rescheduled due to the continuous rise of the mercury level and the prevailing scorching heat. Both government, provincialized, and private schools will have classes in the new timing starting Monday. The schools are also instructed to conduct the morning assembly inside class rooms or shaded areas. This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain until further order."

According to sources, the timing of school breaks may vary from 10 to 20 minutes from district to district. However, all schools will start at 7:30 a.m.

According to meteorological predictions, the maximum temperature on Sunday will be 37 degrees Celsius on average in the state, 39 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 39 degrees Celsius on Thursday, and 38 degrees Celsius on Friday.

There is a possibility of light rain in some isolated areas of the state during the week.
